Sir Cat

One night a cat came sauntering into our home announcing that we now belonged to him. A newspaper ad only brought one reply, a lady whose cat left after Sir Cat had arrived. Our daughter named him, and that name was appropriate indeed. We miss him. He was a special addition to our family.

Sir Cat

Who’s scratching, dog-like, on my door
choosing to meow no more?
I’m Sir Cat. And that’s that!

Who, childlike, wants both in and out
and a doorman, too, without a doubt?
I’m Sir Cat. And that’s that!

Who at dinnertime would love a chair
and thinks his people quite unfair?
I’m Sir Cat. And that’s that!

Whose water must we freshly pour
not leave a dish upon the floor?
I’m Sir Cat. And that’s that!

Who, king-like, sleeps upon his throne
commanding, “ Just leave me alone!”
I’m Sir Cat. And that’s that!
