Lasting Impression

When I first started writing poetry I was enamored of the process and of words themselves. The word picture in this poem COULD be my “It is a dark and stormy night,” but it was my way of expressing the goal of the writer, that of making a lasting impression. It is a sentence fragment and has no period at the end.

Lasting Impression

Words imprinting the mind
like sharply defined footprints
in wet sand—
not being washed away
by waves of mundane thoughts
